Hundreds of traders in Mosobeti have raised concerns over the ongoing construction of Metamaywa-Kebirigo road after the contractors allegedly started using the market field as parking lot for their vehicles.
Speaking on Wednesday, business people led by Mr Dan Mogaka said the construction has negatively impacted on normal operations, making many of them lose hundreds of shillings.
They urged the government to step in and persuade the contractors to use alternative land for parking since it would be difficult for farmers to sell their commodities due to insufficient space.
“Trading in this market is now impossible. The contractors are using the market field as a temporary parking lot. We are losing hundreds of shillings due to that construction,” Mogaka said.
“We request the government to step in expeditiously and look for an alternative land for parking so that we continue with our business as usual. The act by H-Young Company is unjustifiable and they too should come to their senses,” he added.
They also faulted disposing of soil excavated from the road to the market field, claiming that it rendered the place impassible during this rainy season.
“Even the remaining small piece of land is the disposing site of unwanted soil from the road. The place has become impossible to pass during this rainy seasons and this should be stopped immediately,” added Mr John Mong’are.
