Over 14 counties across the country have established County Safety Committees meant to help enhance road safety and reduce accidents.
Majority of the counties that have the committees lie along the Northern Corridor which the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) say has been witnessing high number of road accidents.
Speaking to the press in Eldoret, Wednesday, NTSA Board Member Job Chirchir said they expect all counties to have Safety Committees.
He said the committees are expected to play a critical role in ensuring road users fully adhere to the road safety rules and regulations subsequently reducing accidents and loss of innocent lives.
"This was a pilot project that focused on the counties that lie within roads considered as riskiest but we expect to roll out across the country," noted Mr Chirchir.
"As at now the committees are mainly in counties that falls under the Mombasa - Nairobi - Malaba highway which includes Uasin Gishu," he added.
Uasin Gishu is among the first counties to set up the safety committee.
