Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has called on residents to ensure road safety during this festive season by adhering to traffic rules.

Speaking at Afraha Stadium during Jamhuri Day celebrations, Kinyanjui said the only way to end accidents on roads is by Kenyans observing the traffic rules.

“I would like to take this opportunity to urge Kenyans to observe traffic rules on our roads. We cannot continue to lose lives due to carelessness,” he said.

The former NTSA chairman added that as a county government of Nakuru, they will do all they can to ensure safety on the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway.

On the same Kinyanjui revealed that the county government of Nakuru will organize for a meeting to try and find solution for black spots along Nakuru Highway.

He also warned public service vehicles against disobeying traffic rules calling on all drivers to be extra careful during this festive season.

“As a county we have a meeting as from tomorrow to see on how to find a solution. Let me also call on PSV drivers that let us be careful on our roads during this season. Let us be our own traffic police,” said Lee.

Sentiments echoed by Nakuru County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha who regretted that lives were being lost roads due to carelessness.

He also called on Nakuru county leaders who were elected to focus now on development citing that politics are now over and leaders should work together for the betterment of the people of Nakuru.

“Politics are now over and it is time for the leaders to work together towards developing Nakuru.The issue of accidents is of concern and our appeal is to the drivers and passengers to be careful while on our roads” said Nkanatha.

Other leaders who spoke during the Jamhuri Day celebrations were Nakuru County Deputy Governor Dr.Eric Korir and Nakuru County Assembly speaker Joel Maina Kairu all calling for peace and Unity in Nakuru.
