Road transport in Garissa is not the best, with many roads inaccessible. [Photo/Thikatowntoday]Road transport in Kenya is very common compared to other transport channels because it is cheap. However, road transport in Garissa is not the best in the country. Though some roads found in urban areas are in good condition, most of the rural areas' roads are in bad condition and due to this, it is difficult vehicles to operate to and from rural areas. It is also difficult for perishable goods especially food to reach the factories on time or in good condition thus affecting food production.Due to such poor roads, the health sector has been affected as well to a great extent. This can also be seen when pregnant women want to deliver but they have difficulties in going to the hospitals and due to this, the number of deaths has gone high.Considering that some parts of Garissa county are lowlands, heavy rains hinder people's movement from one place to another. This situation mostly affects students going to school and those going out for their day-to-day activities.Poor transport hinders security such that when an attack occurs and the police are alarmed, it takes long before they respond. A case in hand is the Garissa University terrorism attack years ago, which was attributed to slow response from the police.
