All road users in Kisumu have been urged to adhere to traffic rules and regulations in order to prevent road accidents.Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday, Kisumu Traffic Police Base Commander Jane Mbevi said all road users; pedestrians, drivers, passengers, matatu operators and bodaboda operators have a responsibility of following traffic rules as a sure way of reducing road accidents. She said that bodaboda operators have a bigger responsibility of respecting traffic rules, given the fact that they are now the leading cause of accidents on the roads.“All bodaboda operators must have licenses to operate motorbikes. They must always have two helmets and a reflector jacket besides carrying a single passenger at any given time,” she said.“These are simple rules and regulations that if respected, our roads will be much safer,” she added. Her sentiments come a few days after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) officers off the roads. The Head of State directed traffic officers to take charge of maintaining sanity in the transport sector.According to NTSA statistics, the number of passengers who have died on the road as up to January 17, 2018, is 35 compared to 39 who lost their lives at the same time last year.Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Kisumu County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
