Hussein who was speaking in the estate on Friday, accused roadside sellers and other business people operating near drainage ditches of throwing polythene papers and other heavy objects that end up blocking the ditches.

Hussein said that the available drainage ditches in the area are capable of carrying away all the rain water when well maintained.

"If all the people who operates along these drainage ditches would be responsible enough, then the issue of flooding in the estate would easily be contained," said Hussein in reference to the recent flooding witnessed at the onset of El~Nino in the area.

She noted that the rain that has been raining in the area of late has been minimal yet many ditches cannot drain all the rain water leading to flooding.

"We admit that the area's drainage system is not sufficient, but we need to make use of what we have appropriately to reduce the problem," she said.

The MCA called on everybody operating near the roadside ditches to ensure that no one litters them including themselves saying that their businesses are always the first victims of floods.
