In an interview with the Standard, Governor Roba asked security agencies to increase surveillance and guarantee locals safety.
Roba urged the police to comb through the county and smoke out criminal and terror elements especially this electioneering period.
“I am appealing to national government to enhance security within Mandera and neighboring areas as we approach the August 8 general election,” he said as quoted by the Standard.
Roba urged the government not to relax its security measures especially in the North Eastern region.
Several suspected terror cases have been reported in Mandera in the recent days.
On Wednesday, one person is said to have died after the vehicle he was traveling in run over a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Elwak, Mandera.
On Tuesday, four people in neighboring Garissa County died after a vehicle they were traveling run over an IED in Liboi while a local Chief was allegedly killed by suspected terrorists at his Arabiya home, Mandera on Monday night, according to police.
North Eastern Regional Coordinator Mohamed Saleh says that security has been enhanced in the region.
Saleh told journalists on Wednesday that security apparatus are on high alert and urged locals to volunteer information that will help arrest suspected criminals and terror sympathizers.
