The irked business community complained that the attacks in the evening have reduced the number of customers as people fear to come out at night.

John Mwangi, a business man, said that as businessmen they were afraid of operating at night as the thieves did not spare them either.

“We are requesting for more police officers to be deployed to conduct patrols at night and maybe this will help reduce these theft cases in the area,” said Mr Mwangi.

According to residents, cases of murder have also been recorded in the same area where a student from Nairobi Institute of Business Studies (NIBS) was allegedly shot dead while in another a case a woman was shot in the leg by unknown robbers.

Talking to this reporter, area resident Eric Muturi revealed that every night at least five houses are broken into and lots of property stolen by robbers who are armed with strong weapons.

“We have lost household items like gas cylinders, laptops and household electrical appliances,” he said.

Following the insecurity, residents demanded to know why the Administration Police (AP) and the General Service Unit (GSU) located in the area did not respond to their cases immediately when emergency alarm was raised.

They now want the government to intervene and help restore security for businesses to thrive again.
