Drug firm Roche Group has agreed to assist Kenya fight cancer.
This is after First Lady Margaret Kenyatta met with top officials of the firm on Tuesday and expressed commitment to supply the country with drugs.
Roche Holdings is a Swiss Multinational healthcare company that operates worldwide under two divisions- Pharmaceutical and Diagnostic divisions which will provide the Herceptin at 50 percent reduced price.
A full dose of the drug costs Sh 1.5 million per patient.
Dr Christoph Franz the chairman of the company said that cancer is not a death sentence adding that there is a very high recovery rate for those diagnosed early.
“Unfortunately, many people come for diagnosis when it is too late. Kenya is a friendly country. Making our medicines available will benefit many people in the country”,
He lauded the first lady for being in the front line and walking the talk in the Beyond Zero Campaign.
