Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Mohammed has warned boda boda operators working with criminal groups to rob their customers that their days are numbered.
Addressing boda boda operators at Eldoret Bus Terminus on Friday, Mohammed said rogue riders will have themselves to blame for their bad ways. He said some members of the public have raised complaints in his office.
Mohammed said that a committee of security officials has been constituted to investigate the claims and come up with recommendations.
“If you (boda boda operators) want to continue operating within the town you must desist from working with criminals,” he said.
He warned that the riders risk being ejected from the Central Business District (CBD) if they continue abetting crime.
The county security committee, he warned, has the powers to order ejection of rogue operators from the town.
He lamented that while the government was determined to fight crime, some people are harbouring criminal elements.
Mohammed gave the boda boda operators seven days to reform or be kicked out of the CBD. “We will not tolerate or accommodate people who want to risk the lives of innocent citizens,” he said.
He asked the operators to instead support the government to weed out criminals saying that a safe county will see their business flourish.
