A shady cleric disguising as a refugee has been accused of collecting money from unsuspecting IDP groups in Kisii and Nyamira Counties with promise that he would facilitate compensation for them.
He is also said to be compiling new lists of possible beneficiaries from funds the government has set aside to resettle the IDPs numbering 22000.
The government has since set aside Sh 6 billion for them as compensation.
National IDP Network boss Alfred Akama said the pastor has conned people at Ekerenyo( Nyamira), Bonchari, Nyamarambe and Tendere (Kisii County) in the recent weeks and called for his arrest.
Akama further cautioned those awaiting resettlement to be wary of unscrupulous people out to con them.
He said the man has already been proscribed and is being sought by security agencies.
"Already a circular is out warning people against falling prey into this man. We want the government to ensure he is arrested as soon as possible," he said.
He accused him of using the plight of the IDP groups for self-gains.
The circular written by the National Consultative Coordination Committee on Internally Displaced Persons, a copy of which was seen by the Nation, a certain Rev. Nemwel Momanyi is warned against going round compiling new IDP lists.
"We are not anticipating any new copy and anybody purporting to profile new people should be arrested," agency boss Patrick Njagi said.
