Rogue contractors and owners of unapproved buildings in Nakuru County have been put on notice.
County Lands and Housing Executive Rachel Maina told reporters at her office on Wednesday that the county government will soon launch a crackdown on rogue contractors.
She said that owners of buildings that were constructed or built without the county approval will be demolished.
The Executive said that they have received orders from the national government to crack the whip on rogue contractors and building owners.
“We are soon going to crack the whip on owners of buildings that were not approved by the county,” she said.
Maina also said that housing officials have been dispatched across the county to assess the situation.
The county’s warning comes as President Uhuru Kenyatta earlier this month directed county governments to deal with rogue house contractors.
On the same note, the county executive has also put on notice land grabbers saying they will not be tolerated.
Maina said anyone implicated in land scandals will be dealt with according with the law.
She observed that the county is working closely with the Lands Ministry and the National Land Service (NLC) to tame grabbers.
The Executive asked residents to be on the lookout and report cases of land grabbing.
