The Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) has put on notice institutions offering substandard nursing courses.Speaking in Kisumu on Thursday after carrying out an inspection at the Uzima University College, NCK Chief Executive Officer Edna Tallam-Kimaiyo said any institution of higher learning, be it a college or a university, offering causes that have not been approved by the Council will face drastic measures. She warned parents and guardians against enrolling their children in institutions operating illegally. The CEO was accompanied by Kinuthia Wamwangi and Alfred Obango, who are members of the Council.Obango said the nursing profession is a science, adding that only approved institutions should offer the course.“The nursing profession is a science. It is not a profession that any Tom, Dick, and Harry can just wake up and start training. We are coming for you,” said Obango. “We know there are colleges out there which do not meet our standards. 2018 is going to be serious business. We want to mop out all those schools that are training nurses illegally as well as those colleges that are not meeting the requisite standards that we have set,” he added.
