The recent murder of lawyer Willie Kimani together with his client and driver has sparked a huge outcry from the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), human rights organisations and Kenyans who have criticised the abduction and execution of the three men.
However, the main reason for concern has been of the alleged perpetrators of the horrendous act.
Three police officers have been linked to the murder of the three men.
The irony arises when those bestowed with the responsibility of taking care of the citizens are again the ones being involved in the execution of the same citizens.
However, the whole police service should not be criticised for the mistakes of some rogue police officers who have confused their roles and have adapted to heinous activities.
The three police officers Fredrick Leliman, Stephen Chebulet and Silvia Wanjiku have been arrested and face murder charges levelled against them.
The police service has to come up with ways of assessing police behaviour from time to time and ensure that rogue police officers are tamed before they cause havoc to innocent Kenyans. The three officers should be severely punishment to ensure a reoccurrence of such act never happens.
Kenyans should learn from various police deeds that helped Kenyans in one way or another.
During the Westgate Mall attack a couple years ago, for example, police officers gave their all to end the siege and liberate Kenyans from the harsh ordeal.
These policemen have also been in the front-line to fight terrorism, maintain security and also deal with crime ensuring that all Kenyans are safe.
As much as criticism is being levelled against the police service, it is only fair to also commend other police officers who are giving their all to protect the country.
The whole police service needs to ensure that new legislation is put in place to deal with rogue police officers. This will help stop the negativity being received by the police service.
