Residents of Rongai Sub-county in Nakuru will benefit from a public health campaign programme, which is being sponsored by the government through the ministry of health.
According to Rongai sub-county public health officer Ezekiel Cherer, who talked to our reporter in his office on Friday at his office, the campaign, christened ‘Rongai Sub county Public Health Campaign Programme’ aims at educating and providing public health standards awareness among all classes of Rongai residents.
He said the programme will target school children, teachers, health centres, food and restaurants operators, market place business people, women groups members, alcohol sellers, herbal medicine dealers, traditional brews dealers and general households.
“This project is long overdue after our office proposed it for funding by the government early last year. We are happy that at long last we are going to implement it,” said Cherer.
Cherer added that the area, whose ninety eight percent of its population resides in rural environments while the remaining two percent reside in semi-urban areas, are faced with many public health hazard challenges, which largely contribute to disease break out among other health implications.
These he divulged include; lack of sufficient disposal of human and animals’ waste, contamination of rivers and other water sources, consumption of un-inspected meat products, lack of hygienic standards in public food selling joints and homes, body cleanliness, over consumption and general consumption of illicit and other alcoholic drinks.
