A primary school pupil in Rongo, Migori County was electrocuted on Wednesday after she stepped on a live cable that had been left exposed while crossing her father’s farm.
The girl, who was identified as Beatrice Auma Omondi, a Standard Six pupil at Ngope Academy, died on the spot.
Rongo OCPD Jonathan Kisaka said police have launched investigations into the incident.
“We have established that the illegal connection was done by the girl’s father who disappeared after getting information about the death of his daughter and we are looking for him,” Kisaka said as quoted by citizentv.co.ke.
Her body is lying at Rosewood mortuary in Rongo.
The police boss at the same time urged Kenya Power to take action noting that cases of illegal power connections were rampant in North and South Kamagambo areas in Rongo sub-county.
“Kenya Power should do something about these rising cases of electrocution. We will lose more lives if drastic measures are not taken,” he added.
He also urged residents to desist from illegal power connections saying they pose risks to the lives of their own family members.
