News that Rosemary Odinga has stepped down from the race to be Kibera constituency Member of Parliament have thrown a wrench in the works for Jubilee hopefuls.
The news however, come as a relief for the current MP Ken Okoth, who is running for re-election through the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
To say that Jubilee is worried is an understatement.
Uhuru Kenyatta’s party was said to be capitalizing on Rosemary’s candidature which would serve as a double edged sword for her father and opposition leader, Raila Odinga.
Jubilee is alleged to have hoped for a split vote between ODM voters supporting Rosemary and those who support the incumbent, Okoth. That would have given their candidate a real chance at winning the very elusive seat.
Since Okoth would have run as an independent candidate, it would serve as a great reminder of how undemocratic and biased the Orange Democratic Movement is and by extension its leader Raila Odinga.
The fact that Ken Okoth has set up measures to improve the youth through economic stimulus programs is indisputable. His re-election bid will however, still rely on his party leader’s endorsement.
Well, the Jubilee plan is not working so it would be wise to say that they need a better one if they even hope of clinching the Kibera seat.
