Some Maasai pastoralists living in the area have been slaughtering cows without the help of slaughter attendants, exposing residents to the dangers of consuming uninspected meat,

“I have all the information about the incident and I’m sure this has been going on for some time now, we are going to deal with them and let’s cooperate and end these dangerous acts that may even cost us our lives,” Gakui said.

She ordered the herdsmen to pull out all the meat that had been buried in the soils and also the remains of the meat they were eating as they showed the officers where they had buried the meat.

Gakui challenged the area administration and the county government as Juja sub-county has neither sewerage services nor a water project of its own and instead depends on Thika water and Sewerage Company.

“I want to urge the county government to overlook to the living conditions of these people as they are living in a deserted area without a health facility.

“I also want to throw a challenge to the area administrator as such incidences happen without their knowledge yet they are still here,” the health officer added.

The rotten meat was dumped in Thika as the rest was carried for medical tests.
