A row is brewing between members of Nyamira County Assembly and the county executive over the source of funds given out as a bursary from the governor’s office.
Raising the matter in the county assembly last week, nominated MCA William Abuya demanded to know the source of the money since there is no such kitty as per the law.
Abuya claimed that the county public funds were being misused by Governor John Nyagarama as the kitty has not been sanctioned by the assembly.
His sentiments were supported by Ekerenyo Ward rep Thaddeus Nyabaro who said that his ward has also benefited from the governor’s kitty.
“I was also surprised to learn that one parent from my ward received Sh 50,000 from the bursary kitty in the governor’s office without even bothering to notify me as the area MCA,” Nyabaro said.
He warned that the assembly will not allow the governor to misuse county funds in doing early campaigns saying that all funds should be channelled through legal mechanisms.
Nyabaro said he read political mischief in the kitty which he said was meant boost the diminishing political career of the governor and undermine the leadership of those against his administration.
He was however thrown out of the house by the acting speaker, Bonface Ombori, after failing to apologise or substantiate his allegations against the governor.
The members who were led by the leader of the minority Jackson Mogusu expressed their disappointment over the slow pace of implementing the ward fund bill by the county executive as it was assented into law two months ago.
