Drama started when the youth chanting pro-NASA slogans tried to force themselves near the main dais where the president was seated.

Uhuru, who immediately intervened ordered his escort to arrest police officers who had blocked the youth from accessing the area.

The president was in Wajir county campaigning for Jubilee Party only a week after the NASA brigade led by opposition chief Raila Odinga addressed a series of rallies in the far-flung county.

The head of State was in company of Deputy President William Ruto Parliament Majority Leader Aden Duale and a host of Jubilee politicians.

In his address, Uhuru announced his government will spend Sh23 million in the construction of Bute dam to supply clean water to residents.

He also said over 1,000 youth will be hired under the National Youth Service programme.

"In the next six months, we will use Sh53 million in paying the youth of Wajir county under this (NYS) programme," he said.

"That is part of our effort to improve the lives of Kenyans."

During the event, three MPs Mohamed Elmi (Tarbaj), Adan Keynan (Eldas) and Abdikadir Ore Ahmed (Wajir West) ditched the oppositin and joined Jubilee.

Others who decamped from NASA to the ruling party were deputy governor Abdihafid Yarrow and Senators Hassan Abdirahman and Halima Abdille (nominated ODM).

During the 2013 general election ODM party leader Raila Odinga beat Uhuru by more than 10,000 votes in Wajir County.

During the hotly-contested poll Raila received 49,712 votes against Uhuru's 38,927.

Political analysts have clasified Wajir as a battle ground implying either Mr Odinga or Uhuru can harvest the largest share of the votes during the August 8 general election.
