Multiparty democracy heroes Charles Rubia and Kenneth Matiba now want the famous Saba Saba Day honored as a public holiday.
In a statement read by Mike Matiba, son to the former powerful minister, the two heroes say the day should be factored in due to the critical role it played during the fight for pluralism.
“I have been sent by Matiba and Rubia to greet you all. They say that it is not their wish not to attend the rally today,” he said in reference to their old age.
“They however want this day to be remembered as a national holiday and that is their wish so that it erases bad memories,” he added.
Their fellow multiparty democracy fighter Raila Odinga, who is running for president, assured the families that were tortured during the struggle to repealing of Section 2A that he would compensate them once he takes over.
Although it is not celebrated as a national event, the date is much remembered due to brutality advocates of pluralism went through in 7th of July in 1990 through the hands of police.
