Just four days after the Kenya Rugby Union organised special prayers for the rugby fraternity following a series of deaths dogging the game, another former player has dies.
Former Kenya Harlequins forward George Gachui passed on today (Tuesday) evening, leaving the rugby fraternity in further mourning.
“It’s with great sorrow that we announce the death of a true Quin George Gachui “Pozza” who passed away this evening. Keep his family and friends in prayer,” said Kenya Harlequins in a statement on their official Facebook page.
Gachui was captain for the USIU select squad between 1996 and 1999 soon after completing his High School education at St Mary’s School, Nairobi.
He then joined Kenya Harlequins in 2001.
“He was a man of the people who was so concerned with the players’ welfare. It’s a big loss because he was one of the most outstanding officials of Harlequins. He loved the game so passionately,” said a media friend who frequently interacted with him.
His death has struck barely two weeks since the murder of Nakuru RFC flanker Mike Okombe.
