Area chief Peter Ngige admitted there is a problem with sanitation at the camp but the issue has not affected service delivery to the people. Residents had consistently called for the relocation of the camp from the deputy county commissioners’ office to the current location. Ngige said residents are pleased that the services are offered closer to them.

“We serve the people as fast as we can but there is still need to have a toilet,” the chief said.

“I am sure the MP will honour her promise and allocate the money to have the toilet constructed.”

The chief said that area MP Esther Gathogo had promised to allocate some money to put up a social hall, police houses, an ablution block and also connect the area with electricity. The lawmaker allegedly made the promise when the chief visited her office on Friday.

Chief Ngige revealed that workers and citizens seeking services use the nearby county council toilets or the ones used by those operating businesses in the camp’s neighbourhood.

The need for an ablution block was evident during the cash transfer for the elderly launch in the area, which was held outside the chief’s office. The chief, however, said that the residents had no reason to worry as the matter was being looked into and would soon be addressed.
