Ruiru MP Esther Gathongo has denied claims of mismanaging the Constituency Development Funds (CDF).

Speaking to the press at her office on Tuesday, Gathongo lashed out at some leaders in the area who have accused her of misappropriating funds meant for development.

Gathongo said that those behind the allegations only want to tarnish her name, adding that her development agenda for the last two years she has been in office speaks for itself.

“They are envy and jealous of the achievements I have made and want to tarnish my name,” she said.

The MP said that during the 2013-2014 financial year, the constituency was allocated Sh71 million and that the money was used appropriately.

She denied that the constituency was allocated Sh81 million in the last financial year as reported by some politicians.

The MP added that the funds for this financial year have not been disbursed yet.

Gathongo stated she has no time for petty politics and those who want to play politics should wait for 2017.

On Monday, Gitothua MCA Chege Wanjiru accused the MP of mismanaging funds meant for development. The MCA claimed that the MP has misused funds and neglected key areas that need urged development.

The MCA indicated that most roads in the area in a poor state yet the constituency receive a lot of money from the government.
