Speaking in Ruiru District Offices during the issuance of the Uwezo Fund cheques worth Ksh6.7 million, Gathogo said that though the teachers have a right to strike, children also have a right to education.

“As much as you teachers have a right to strike, the students and pupils have a right to education. Please fight for your rights but don’t do it at the expense of these little children,” she said.

The MP also accused teachers who are chasing away their colleagues who have resumed teaching saying that every human being should be left to make his or her own decision.

She went ahead to state that the teachers should also ask for a reasonable salary increment and avoid making demands that will put the country’s economy on the edge. Gathogo added that the country has a lot of issues to cater for and teachers must consider asking for reasonable share and an achievable salary increment.
