Ruiru residents of Kiambu County who work in Nairobi were a happy lot this morning following ease of traffic congestion. Residents say they used to wake up as early as 5am to avoid being caught up with early traffic snarl-up.
Jane Wambui businesswoman who commutes every morning to Nairobi says that he was caught by surprise after taking only 45 minutes to town. She says she used to take at least an hour to arrive at her place of work.
“You arrive at work tired due to fatigue,” laments the businesswoman. With total gridlock from Safari Park hotel all the way to the CBD and all the intersections in between, time spent on the road was longer than usual as vehicles remained immobile for hours. Some motorists even claimed to have been trapped in the 'jam' for up to four hours.
Sam Irungu a motorist from Thika who works in Nairobi says that the ease in traffic congestion has given him a new lease of life. He says he can now save on fuel and lost man-hours.
“If this positive trend continues, then I will save a lot of cash on fuel,” says Irungu.
Nairobi County government and the Transport ministry launched a two-week experimental project to ease congestion in Nairobi through the removal of key roundabouts that have been blamed for major traffic jams.
