A Runda woman was on Wednesday arraigned before a Kiambu Court to answer to charges of detaining and torturing her house help.
Ms Beatrice Muthoni Nderitu was being accused of allegedly assaulting 25 year old Mercy Mwake at her home in Runda estate, Nairobi.
Ms Mwake alleges that she was being held in the house since 2014 before she managed to escape on Friday, March 23.
Ms Mwake also revealed how she would be subjected to routine beatings and that she had never seen or spoken to her family members after she was employed.
She further said that she had never been out of the home claiming that after two years, the employer stopped paying her and also started assaulting her.
During the case hearing, Ms Muthoni denied the charges before the court and through her lawyer, she requested the court to stop the media from covering the proceeding saying it will put the client at risk.
Kiambu Senior Principal Magistrate Stella Atambo, however, dismissed the application saying the case will be heard in open court.
The prosecution had filed an application to have the accused detained saying they need more time to prepare more charges.
Magistrate Atambo granted the application and ordered for the accused person to be detained at Kiambu Police Station pending the next case hearing.
