According to them, many of the beneficiaries, especially churches and institutions have complied with the figure supposed to be paid to them to be eligible for connection.

On Thursday, a group of residents complained that the process was slow, saying it would hamper plans of some institutions that may use the electricity for education purposes.

They said the delay may also jeopardise the plan of President Uhuru Kenyatta who had earlier promised that by May, all institutions would have been served with electricity.

“The electrification board is really letting us down and something expeditious ought to be done. I am really worried that some institutions like Riamandere and Rioga paid the Sh17,00 that is required transmission,” said Evans Minda.

“This is not only affecting our institutions but some households. What is important though, is to have institutions and churches lit before the end of April according to the wishes of the government which is not likely to happen,” added Wilson Kemonde of neighbouring Rioga.

They called the government to carry out routinely check as a way of ensuring some of the projects it initiated have been accomplished.

“The government should mechanize a way of assessing the progress of its projects like the electrification across the country for the purposes of efficiency,” Kemonde said.
