Pupils of Mau Summit Primary School were all smiles after receiving donations of books among other items from the Nakuru County’s First lady Lucia Mbugua.
Mbugua visited the school accompanied by several county officials.
She started an initiative of helping rural students with learning materials and sanitary towels to boost their performance in national exams.
Her campaign dubbed ‘Read Aloud’ targets rural primary and secondary schools especial those with poor infrastructures.
She urged parents to be in the fore front and support the teaching staff in order to mould students who are disciplined and ready to learn.
Mbugua said the society must put more efforts in education and also shun early marriages and Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) which she said was being conducted in some rural areas without being reported.
She said Nakuru County improved in KCPE compared to last year adding that a taskforce formed to look into the education status tabled it report which was being implemented by the Nakuru county governor Kinuthia Mbugua.
Mbugua who tipped the student on exam tactics also promised to open a library to act as a resource centre for the school.
School principal Johnson Irungu said the school has improved with several pupils admitted to national secondary schools.
Area MCA Joseph Ngware said the Nakuru county government has invested in education by building a modern polytechnic.
He said the county bursary fund is alleviating the suffering of poor learners who excel in different levels of education but fail to raise the required school fees.
