Several schools within the rural in Mavoko sub- county's are experiencing acute water shortage.
The schools include Kavomboni, Mount View, Evaline and Nzoiani Primary Schools in Katani ward.
Joan Kanini, a single mother with four children studying at Kavomboni Primary School said the shortage was a big blow to effective operations of the schools.
Addressing the press at her home in Katani on Tuesday, Kanini said children from the schools alongside others spent time collecting water instead of attending their classes.
She said some of the teachers were fond of sending children to collect water from a nearby community dam for usage at the school.
Kanini said such water was used for construction, cleaning and at times irrigating crops at the school.
She said water used by the teachers for preparing food was peddled by villagers especially women using donkeys.
Kanini said the situation compromised children's education thereby leading to poor performances in KCPE year in year out.
She urged the Machakos Government to intervene into the matter by providing the affected schools with reliable sources of water instead of providing empty tanks.
Kanini said it was useless for the government to provide the schools with water tanks hoping that rains will fall for the schools to tap it using the tanks.
She said reliable bore holes should be drilled in the schools to end the problem once and for all instead.
