Ms Odinga said the move is aimed at restoring order in the procurement system which has received complaints in the recent past.

Speaking to this writer on Thursday, Ms Odinga who is in charge of the county's performance contracting said the procurement system has been leaky hence taken advantage of by unscrupulous officers.

She said her office is working on streamlining the procurement system before it can resume normal operations.

"We have decided to stop any procurement process till things are put in place. This is only aimed at making our services better for the people we serve," she said.

The procurement department has been on the spot in the recent past over approval of shoddy work done by contractors, with roads and other infrastructural projects said to be most affected.

The county currently owes contractors close to Sh2 billion with some of the projects being in question over non-completion and poorly done job.

Ms Odinga however indicated that she is committed to ensuring that the county gets value for its money, and this can only be achieved through proper procurement.

She did not however specify the timeline for the department to resume its operations.
