Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has told ODM Chairman John Mbadi to be neutral and focus on how the party can be more vibrant or resign.
She accused Mbadi of being partisan ahead of the party’s primaries next year February.
"As the chairman, he should be neutral and focus on how best ODM party can be made more vibrant. He should resign if he cannot handle his roles,” Ruth said in Kisumu on Monday.
"Mbadi should support party structures so that we can have free, fair and transparent nominations," she added.
Ruth said the Suba MP's action of inviting incumbent governors to fundraisers in the constituency does not assure other aspirants of free and fair nominations.
Last week, Mbadi hosted Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma and Cyprian Awiti of Homa Bay in a harambee in his constituency, a move that raised questions about his independence.
"Some of the governors who are now close to Mbadi have done nothing substantive for the party. Their development records are wanting," she claimed.
She asked ODM Secretary General Agnes Zani to take action against party officials using their positions to gain political mileage.
