Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga has revealed why she bolted out of the governorship race.

Ruth dismissed claims that she quit the race because she was a coward.

She said she wants to concentrate on campaigning for her brother, Raila Odinga, who is eyeing the presidency for the fourth time.

“I am not quitting the race because I am a coward, no. I have never been and will never be. My interest has shifted to Raila’s presidential campaigns, but I’ll be right back,” she said on Friday while addressing the press.

The deputy governor had mounted a serious challenge against incumbent Governor Jack Ranguma.

She said her family’s interest made her quit the gubernatorial race.

Others still in the race to unseat Ranguma are Senator Anyang’ Nyong’o, Prof Gordon Wayumba and Dr Hezron MacObewa.

“Next time, I hope I will come back to the race. But for this crucial elections ahead of us, I want to announce to the public categorically that I am not running for the governor’s seat,” she said.
