Political analyst and commentator Daudi Mwenda has said Deputy President William Ruto's 2022 presidential bid is hanging on the balance.
In a lengthy opinion editorial published with The Star Newspaper on Wednesday, Mwenda observed that the DP has cultivated a chain of political enemies over a short period of time.
He noted that these political enemies could pose a great challenge in the DP's attempt to consolidate his support ahead of 2022.
Mwenda singles out the bungled Jubilee Party primaries that saw a lot of seasoned politicians especially from Central Kenya trounced by relatively political greenhorns.
Ruto oversaw the Jubilee Party nominations.
"In an unprecedented move, the majority of the President’s staunch allies were put to the sword during the primaries. These are the vanquished men and women who have now morphed into the KAIC," Mwenda quipped.
"Their first agenda is to undo what Ruto has painstakingly done in Mt Kenya and Rift Valley. Smarting from recent electoral defeat in the primaries, they are prepared to use their deep pockets to rescue their political careers from oblivion," he added.
The Deputy President is seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta after 2017.
