Deputy President William Ruto has once again opened up the financial crisis facing Mumias Sugar Company, accusing Nasa leaders of bringing the company to almost its knees.

Speaking on Tuesday during a campaign rally in Kakamega County, Ruto linked the crisis to Nasa fla-bearer Raila Odinga and Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero.

This is not the first time Ruto accuses Odinga and Kidero of having a hand in the financial woes at the sugar firm, having done so when the government injected some cash to help it back on its feet.

According to Ruto, Kidero, who was at the time at the helm of the company allowed Odinga to get loans from the company, which affected its operations.

“Mr Kidero should tell his friend (Raila) to repay the debts he owes the sugar factory so that farmers who are suffering due to financial difficulties and poor management of the factory in the past can be paid their money,” he said.

Odinga has however come out to refute the claims, saying he only transacted with the company through bank loans.

Ruto went on to urge the two to take responsibility, and pay up the loans.

He said that for the third time under the Jubilee watch, his government was willing to inject some additional money to ensure it does not close.

“The Jubilee administration has released more than Sh3 billion to help revive Mumias Sugar and done everything possible to ensure the miller does not face collapse,” said Ruto.
