DP William Ruto has agreed with NASA leader Raila Odinga after he chose to withdraw from the October 26 polls. Ruto said that he agreed with Raila Odinga’s decision to quit from the presidential race. Speaking to Taita Taveta residents, the DP lauded Raila for exercising his democratic right of choice.

“We agree with him because he said it is his democratic right to withdraw from the election,” Ruto said during rally Taita Taveta.

Opposition stated that the move by Raila will force stakeholders to meet his irreducible demands before fresh elections are held. He quoted 2013 Supreme Court decision that expanded the presidential election cancellation clause.

"The Supreme Court clarified that the relevant article is 138 (8) (b) which deals with cancellation of a presidential election, in the event of the death of the president or the deputy, on or before the scheduled date. The Supreme Court expanded the clause to include when a candidate withdraws from the presidential election. The implication of this provision is that upon our withdrawal, the election scheduled for October 26 stands canceled," Odinga said in his statement.
