Machakos town MP Victor Munyaka has differed with one of his allies, Deputy President William Ruto, on the constitutional amendment debate.
Munyaka, a Jubilee MP has disagreed with Ruto on his stand over the issue of law change to expand the government, an issue that has sparked public interests across the political divide.
The MP who is serving his third term in office told off his boss’s opposition on law change stating that the right time for the country to conduct a referendum is now.
He addressed the press in Machakos town on Monday.
Munyaka said with current political stability in the country, Kenyans should be allowed to decide.
"Now that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga is closely working with President Uhuru Kenyatta, this is the appropriate time to change the law," Munyaka said.
He said any visionary leader would not oppose the referendum and even probable expansion of the government for inclusiveness.
“I personally campaigned against the new constitution which we all agree was 20 percent unfit," Munyaka added.
Ruto who has announced his bid for Presidency in 2022 has since dismissed calls for constitutional amendment to expand the government res establishing the position of a Prime Minister and his two deputies.
