Attempts by Deputy President William Ruto to make inroads inot Busia County politics have suffered a setback after Busia County Deputy Governor Kizito Wangalwa told him that he has no plans to leave the opposition Cord coalition.
Wangalwa, a member of the ODM revealed that people in the county want him to remain in the party and that should he make a decision contrary to the wishes of the electorate, it will amount to betrayal.
The DP had presided over a fundraiser in Matayos and Butula sub-counties on Saturday and it was in Bukhalalire Boys Secondary School that Wangalwa let the cat out of the bag that he is in ODM to stay.
"Ruto, you are urging me to join you in Jubilee, but Busia residents have told me to stay in Cord. That is the official position," the Deputy Governor said.
Wangalwa added that despite the fact that they have been close friends for many years, he will never forsake the residents who elected him.
Busia county is considered an ODM zone.
However, the exit of Ababu Namwamba from the Orange party has seen the region become a battle frontier with the ruling Jubilee coalition showing insatiable appetite to break the opposition monopoly.
