Deputy President William Ruto has asked stakeholders in the Ministry of Education to ensure the relevance of courses offered to the country's economic needs.Speaking in an interview with Radio Citizen, the former higher education minister said it is time the ministry encouraged the study of technical courses as opposed to arts saying that it is the former that would promote eceonomic development in the country."We want to see more students studying masonry, plumbing and science. This is what will help us address our economic challenges and move in the right direction. Not the history of Vasco da Gama," he said. The former Eldoret North legislator added that it was as a result of the need to streamline the education sector to the development needs of the country that the Jubilee regime decided to overhaul the 8-4-4 system for a different system that would help the country realize the same.He also called for support for the the vocational training facilities saying those who make it to such institutions are not failures as widely perceived.
