Deputy President William Ruto has warned the opposition against calling for mass action in protest of the Security Amendment Laws passed and signed by President Uhuru Kenyatta last week.
Speaking at the Ziwa Township AIC church in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, Ruto cautioned Cord leaders against mass action.
He said that there were other avenues for the opposition to raise their views concerning the security laws instead of planning to call for mass protests.
DP said that the country could not allow hooliganism associated with mass action saying that Cord has a hidden agenda.
“Calling for mass action is not the solution, Cord wants to cause havoc and create panic among Kenyans,” said Ruto.
Ruto cited various past events that had been organised by Cord only to turn chaotic saying that Mass actions would result to chaos which would disrupt the country’s activities.
“We have seen the way they have been conducting their activities that have often resulted to violence, that is what they want to happen,” said Ruto.
Ruto at the same time defended the security laws saying that they would help curb terror activities and other forms of crime faced by Kenyans.
DP added that the government is not silencing the Media and the rights and freedoms of Kenyan.
He also said that the laws would target people whose agenda was to cause fear and havoc in the country, noting that law abiders had no reason to worry.
Ruto said that government was committed to fighting insecurity and ensuring Kenyans are safe.
DP urged Kenyans to be supporting government in formulating and implementing policies to curb crime for the benefit of the country.
