Speaking to a delegation of leaders from Trans-Nzoia at his Sugoi home, Ruto on Monday assured Kenyans that the polls would be conducted on August 8 as planned.

“The Constitution says Kenyans will vote in August,” Ruto affirmed.

Ruto further questioned the opposition's refusal to using a manual backup, although all the necessary processes in the preparation of the polls are manually conducted.

“The opposition has always introduced roadblocks. They complained about IEBC, which has been disbanded, now they are complaining about the manual backup system. These are just excuses to delay the election,” Ruto said.

The deputy president added that the opposition lacked a clear agenda for the country and that they were unprepared for the August election.

“The opposition know well they cannot compete with Jubilee that’s why they are looking for excuses but we want to tell them they should be ready for elections in August,” he said.

He said that some disabled persons could not be identified by the electronic system and wondered how Cord expected them to participate in the vote.

“Some disabled persons have no biometric identification and have a right to vote like the rest of Kenyans,” he said.

The Trans Nzoia leaders said they had decided to join Jubilee and said the party has the interests of Kenyans at heart.
