Deputy President William Ruto has accused the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) of planning to trigger violence should their candidate lose in 2017 general election.
Through his spokesperson David Mugonyi, the DP said the opposition's claims that the government is preparing to rig next year's polls is a ground for rejection of results should the Jubilee administration win.
“Cord is trying to build a narrative around rigging to justify the violence they are planning. They have told Kenyans in their endless press conferences that they will disown results should they lose," said Mugonyi.
He told the opposition to concentrate on selling their agenda to the electorates instead of making “unfounded, baseless, tenuous, mischievous and wild” allegations against the government.
"Cord should submit itself to the election process and mobilize support in a civil manner, devoid of threats, intimidation and coercion. This is what democrats do,” he said.
He added: “This destructive tendency of casting aspersions on anyone, everyone and anything is beneath the stature of anybody with leadership ambitions."
In a press address on Tuesday, Cord Management Committee co-chairmen; James Orengo, Johnston Muthama and Eseli Simiyu, claimed that there was a plan by the government to lag in the implementation of the new electoral reforms to create loopholes for rigging 2017 polls.
