The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) secretary general, Ababu Namwamba has been making headlines this week after stating that he has been frustrated in the party.
Now that Ababu wants to shift parties, it is speculated that Deputy President William Ruto is encouraging the secretary general to take charge of Julia Ojiambo's Labour Party of Kenya (LPK).
The plan of the two leaders, according to sources close to them, is to take over the party and poach leaders from ODM as well as lure MPs from the Western parts of the country to join forces with them.
MPs led by the Funyula legislator, Paul Otuoma and Sirisia's John Waluke had a meeting at the Intercontinental Hotel where they discussed the LPK situation.
"We strongly rebuke those fond of branding others all sorts of silly names, like 'mole'. How can it be that when we engage the President we become moles? But when others do the same thing it is regarded as normal business," Otuoma said.
Ever since Ababu came out accusing the party of frustrating him, he has gotten hostile remarks from party members as well as citizens.
The hostility that the secretary general is currently facing could be for various reasons. One of them being that he has missed quite a number of important key functions that the party organised without solid excuses. Another one could be the failed ODM elections at Kasarani in February 2014 that saw him branded a mole after men in black interrupted the event causing mayhem.
In relation to her party being swept off her feet, LPK leader Julia Ojiambo said that nothing of the sort would happen and that she would not allow it.
"My party is not for sale. No one can afford the Labour Party since our interests are the interests of workers who are millions in the country and want good governance," said Ojiambo.
