Deputy President William Ruto has refuted claims that the government intends to relocate the Port of Mombasa.

Speaking on Monday during the relaunch of Mtongwe Ferry, Ruto said the government plans to set up economic zones in various towns across the country."Infrastructure has been a big letdown, and it is so heartbreaking to see some individuals walking around making bold and dishonest statements concerning the economic zones the government is keen to set up,” said Ruto."Mombasa Port will expand when we establish a special economic zone in Voi, Nairobi and Naivasha to allow raw materials from abroad to be imported in mass and channeled easily to the various industries, where the end products will be ferried through the Standard Guage Railway back to the Port of Mombasa, and finally to the outside world market,” he added. The DP assured residents that the Jubilee government will transform Mombasa into a better place, and urged to re-elect President Uhuru Kenyatta and vote for the party's aspirants. On his part, Uhuru said his government will set aside Sh40 billion for infrastructural development in the Coast region, if he will be re-elected come August.
