Bomet governor Isaac Rutto now says a decision to fly to South Africa for medication after he was hit by a teargas canister on the face, was advised by doctors in Nairobi.

Rutto who spoke during an interview NTV, Wednesday, said he was to have Elastoplast all over his face but decided only to have it at his nose as he was 'afraid' of how he would look like.

"The Elastoplast on my nose was not my problem. The problem was fructures on my face," said the governor.

"Doctors in Nairobi who are renowned professors are the ones who told me to travel to South Africa since they couldn't handle my situation as I had to be operated internally. Infact they travelled with me," he added.

A decision by the governor to fly to South Africa in November 2016, for what many thought was a minor injury received criticisms from the public who accused him of misuse of public funds.
