Angry Eldoret farmers on Friday took to the street to demonstrate against the government whom they claim to be responsible for their suffering.
The farmers blamed Deputy President William Ruto for ignoring them as well as elected leaders whom they claim want them to resort to other types of Agriculture.
"We have heard some MPs asking farmers to resort to diversified crops such as potatoes. We would like to tell you we will stick to maize. At the moment we have not seen any fertiliser as had promised by Kiunjuri.
"DP Ruto, we are in the same county of Uasin Gishu. We have monitored you and we have realized that you never mention anything about fertilizer and maize. So we would wish to know if our agenda is different from yours. We respect you but when it comes to a job we have to say it," said David Kiprono, a farmer.
The farmers harshly criticised the elected leaders who have been issuing fake promises at the expense of their sufferings.
According to Kipkor Menjo, the director of Kenya Farmers Association (KFA) in the county, the Agricultural parliamentary committee failed to fulfill their promise during the passing of the supplementary budget.
"Last week, the parliamentary committee of Agriculture was here and they promised that by Tuesday this week they would have passed a supplementary budget that would facilitate the settlement of the money they owe us. But the surprising thing is that the budget was read but we have not seen what we were promised.
"We have so many challenges brought by fake promises from these leaders. That is not good because even at the moment we have no fertilizer yet it has already been paid for," lamented Menjo.
