Although he has not publicly challenged the handshake, the country's number two is increasingly getting worried over the deal if at all his recent public charm offensive is anything to go by.

Already, a section of opposition leaders led by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna have hinted a possibility of having a referendum that would pave way for parliamentary system, a move that Ruto is vehemently opposing.

"I want to tell Ruto that we shall change the constitution to make our governance more inclusive.Whether he likes it or not, that must happen," said Sifuna.

Part of the deal between the duo includes inclusiveness, a reason why Ruto may be sensing a possibility of a referendum push with a blessing from Kenyatta.

Yet again, the decision by Rail to visit Gideon Moi's home where he met retired President Daniel Moi, may have further irked the DP, who already understands the warm relationship between the Kenyatta's and Moi.

"We shall not accept boardroom deals that aims at changing the constitution to create positions for some individuals. We are ready to oppose such moves.

"The people of Kenya should be allowed to elect leaders of their choice. Those who think that MPs can elect a PM to lead government are day dreaming," he said at Kambi Kuku on Saturday, a statement that indirectly targets Uhuru.

While Uhuru has not come out openly, it is however believed that Odinga's maneuvers have his full blessings.

At the event, Kipchumba Murkomen warned that the constitution cannot be changed if Uhuru does not consult Ruto.

"Our collective position here reflects what Jubilee thinks. Uhuru has not told as anything about the referendum so we can't entertain such debates."
