Deputy President William Ruto says he has forgiven witnesses who gave false testimonies during his ICC trial.
An emotional Ruto, who was speaking for the first time since the termination of his crimes against humanity case at The Hague-based International Criminal Court, the evidence given against him was false.
“I pray that God who vindicated me will help you (ICC witnesses) come to terms to the acts,” Ruto said during a press conference at his Karen home.
He also accused some members of the civil society of ‘conspiring to manufacture an evil narrative and for hiring, bribing and coaching witnesses’.
His co-accused, former Kass FM radio presenter Joshua arap Sang, was also acquitted.
Ruto on Friday said the case collapsed because he was innocent and not because of political interference and tampering of witnesses.
The DP vowed to address the plight of the victims of the post-election violence of 2008.
“The post-election violence marks a very sad and shameful chapter of our country,” he added.
