Ruto hails Jubilee governors for ditching referendum push
Deputy President William Ruto has praised the seven Jubilee coalition governors who withdrew support from other county bosses and the opposition leaders calling for a referendum to increase more cash allocations to the counties.
Speaking in Thika town on Saturday during a fundraiser where he represented President Uhuru Kenyatta, Ruto said that parliament is capable of passing laws to increase the county government funds instead of pushing for a referendum.
“I pass my gratitude to those governors led by Governor William Kabogo. I know others will see the light and follow the same,” Ruto said.
He added: “This is a time when we should be thinking of how to build our country's peace and stability. Such motions should be passed in parliament and we will increase counties funds even without a referendum.”
Ruto urged all elected leaders to work and stop engaging in dirty politics, saying this is the time to work for Kenyans and not engage in politics that do not benefit the people.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is in Uganda, sent his deputy for the fundraiser meant to assist children living with disabilities.
