Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday said that no one owes him a "debt" for teaming up with President Uhuru Kenyatta to form the Jubilee Government.
He told Jubilee supporters to concentrate on the 2017 General Election and ensure the Jubilee Party wins more than 70 percent of the votes.
The Deputy President said his chance of becoming President in 2022 is a matter that should not distract Jubilee supporters from the objective of winning the coming elections with a landslide.
He said 2022 will sort itself out when the time comes.
“The important thing for us is to win the 2017 election,” said the DP, adding that all Kenyans owe each other the responsibility to foster unity and friendship.
“It is not you who owes me a debt. It is all of us Kenyans who owe each other the debt of friendship, unity and brotherhood,” said the Deputy President when he spoke at a church function in Nairobi’s Zimmerman Estate.
He was responding after many Members of Parliament who spoke at the function said that the Central Kenya region will vote for him in 2022 as payback for his decision to team up with President Kenyatta in the 2013 elections.
"Let's concentrate on winning the 2017 elections: leave 2022 God will decide."
